Tianhai Yan

    Dr. Tianhai Yan, Programme Leader of Ruminant Nutrition Research, Principal Scientific Officer, Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute. His main research achievements include:  1) Developed a new energy rationing system for dairy cows (Feed into Milk, 2004), which incorporated results of my innovative research work in maintenance energy requirement and energetic efficiency for current dairy herds. This system has been adopted in UK for rationing dairy cows and in EU-wide as a reference for dairy cows’nutrition. 2)  Developed a range of models for accurate prediction of manure nitrogen output for dairy and beef cattle, which formed the key part of the Nitrate Directives Action Programme of Northern Ireland. 3) Two papers on enteric methane emissions of dairy cows published by my team in a leading international journal – Journal of Dairy Science in 2010 (vol. 93 pages 2630-2638) and 2012 (vol. 95 pages 3139-3148), were among 100 highly cited papers published in the journal.
